Gambia: Saving lives with Community-Led Total Sanitation

Alfred Gomez, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Coordinator at the Directorate of Health Promotion and Education Unit of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare shares his views on the CLTS initiative in this column and how the piloting of CLTS in the Gambia in 2009 and the gradual expansion of the approach through targeting of communities in West Coast Region, particularly along the Gambia -Casamance Border, Central River, Upper River, and Lower River Regions have helped to reduce the rate of open defecation in the country.
