World Toilet Day 2011 events in Vietnam

Vietnam marked the 2011 World Toilet Day with a sanitation workshop, bringing together officials from the Ministry of Health, researchers from national research institutes and sanitation practitioners from various national agencies, NCCR North-South, WHO, Unilever, INGOs including Plan International, East Meets West and Lien Aid. Results of various researches related to sanitation were presented and discussed. A message from Jack Sim (World Toilet Organisation) was delivered through a video link, announcing an imminent establishment of the World Toilet Academy that will provide training opportunities for local entrepreneurs in sanitation business. Prof Nguyen Huy Nga, Ministry of Health, Vietnam stressed the importance of closer collaboration between researchers, policy makers and practitioners in sanitation improvement. He encouraged more researches to enable development of more effective behaviour change communication. He also announced the plan for Vietnam to host an international scientific conference on sanitation in the future.
