One Day Sharing, Learning and Planning Workshop for the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin in Varanasi

This report presents the main discussions, conclusions and recommendations of the one day workshop on learning, sharing and planning in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on 9th November, 2017. The workshop was convened by the District Sanitation Committee, Varanasi facilitated by Water Supply & Sanitation Council (WSSCC) and Institute of Development Studies , University of Sussex, UK.

Report from the regional workshop to share, learn and plan with quality and sustainability of Swachh Bharat Mission

Since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission - Gramin (SBM (G)), Uttar Pradesh (the most populous state in India) has seen pockets of success, with some Districts already declared or close to declaring themselves Open Defecation Free (ODF). To identify successful practices and methods for rapid sharing, learning, adopting and adapting of these for local needs and conditions, the Divisional Swachh Bharat Team, Moradabad, organised a three-day workshop from September 11-13, 2017.

Incontinence Needs in Low and Middle Income Countries

The Impress Network recently ran a side event entitled 'Incontinence Needs in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs)' at the WEDC 2017 Conference during which experiences and ideas on this topic were shared with those working for governments and NGOs, through to academic researchers and policy makers. The presenters also described the current knowledge base, gaps in practice and explored future action and research needs.

Health and Hygiene across the Life Course: World Health Assembly 2017 side session report

During the World Health Assembly 2017, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), SCA, Government of Kenya and WaterAid came together to share approaches to ensure good hygiene and health practices and to raise standards across the life course, from childhood to adolescence, from motherhood to menopause, to old age and responding to disabilities. The session took place in the morning on 24 May 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva, and was attended by more than 40 international delegates from UN agencies, private sector, member states, NGOs and academia.

Changing hearts and minds to leave no one behind: Sanitation Action Summit 2016

To support and accelerate the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission India, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) along with Global Citizen India, the Government of India, and the Government of Maharashtra, created a platform for listening and learning during the Sanitation Action Summit held in Mumbai on 18 November 2016.

Looking beyond ODF: Plan NL/Plan UK side event at WEDC Conference 2016

At the 39th International WEDC Conference, Plan Netherlands and Plan UK hosted a side event entitled 'Looking beyond ODF: planning and implementing for sustainability. Plan  shared challenges and lessons learned from two different Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Programmes: Mascha Singeling, Senior WASH Advisor at Plan Netherlands, shared lessons learned from the Pan Africa CLTS Programme that covered 8 African countries; Mimi Coultas, WASH Advisor at Plan International UK, presented the lessons learned from the large Payment by Results South Asia WASH Results Programme.

Report from CLTS Sharing and Learning at WEDC 39 in Ghana

As part of the 39th WEDC International Conference, the CLTS Knowledge Hub hosted a one day CLTS Sharing and Learning workshop on Sunday 10th July 2016 in Kumasi, Ghana.  Participants from a range of different countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe shared their experiences,  innovations, challenges and knowledge gaps in CLTS and WASH more generally.
