CLTS was introduced in Zimbabwe in Mutoko district in late 2008.
In July 2008, Plan RESA organised a CLTS Facilitators Training Workshop in Zambia, facilitated by Kamal Kar. Three staff from Plan Zimbabwe attended. Subsequently, in November 2008, a training workshop for facilitators was held. Participants included staff from Plan Mutoko, the Ministry of Health, Mutoko Rural District Council, District Development Fund (Water Division), Nyahunure Community Trust and Community Technology Development Trust (Comtech). The three facilitators trained in Zambia facilitated during the workshop. As part of the workshop a day, five villages (Gurupira, Tsiga, Ganyiwa, Mutize I and Mutize II) were triggered in Kabasa B ward where no subsidy-based sanitation programme had been implemented.
In January 2009, during post-triggering follow-up, Mutize I and Mutize II were verified and certified to be ODF, making them the first of their kind in the district and possibly even in the country!
